Richard ("Rick") Merlini, CEO of American Heartland Homebuilder started his company in 1988 when he met a successful home-remodeling owner and thought he would try to replicate his success. With a close friend who still works for him, he began with a few small jobs. Referrals brought larger projects. An opportunity to buy several vacant lots in a new subdivision at a fair price was his stepping stone to building new homes. He developed home designs and supervised all construction. The success of those first homes made possible the acquisition of a larger tract of land in 1992. That year he built 48 homes. In 1993 the company completed its first combined land development / building project. In June of 2006, Rick was contacted by the producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to build an extreme dream home for the show. A decision maker explains the process of looking for the right builder out of the many in the area, "We have to check their background. We have to make sure the county believes in them, that they have a good record and are building homes and not getting sued. They must be outstanding citizens... and that's what everyone said about Rick and American Heartland. They are people you can trust, when they give their word they will follow through, and once they say yes, they will be there for you." After completing the home in 53 hours, 54 minutes, the shows producers were amazed. "I've built 38 homes on this show and this is the best quality I've seen on the show. Best quality in the fastest time ever. That's an EXTREME job!" To date, American Heartland Homebuilder has built more than 1,200 homes. We're known for our exciting interior and exterior features and the natural flow of our homes.
