Does Bankrupcy Automatically Preclude Me From Getting a Mortgage?

No. Your bankruptcy can appear on your credit report for up to 10 years. However, while a lender may not be thrilled to give you a loan, you may still be able to get a mortgage. Your lender will want to see court-approved papers confirming that creditors are satisfied with your debt restructuring. The lender also will want to see that you have re-established credit and are making payments on time.
